Jungle Books Characters

Here is my interpretation of the Jungle Book Characters.  This was for my Creature Design Class With Joe Weatherly.   It was a great class with a cool instructor.  Also it gave me the opportunity to try new drawing and coloring techniques. Enjoy these pics from my animation desk!

Elephant Creature

Heres my newest piece from the Creature design.  I wanted to add more of a story to it than just a creature in space.  So here it is. I drew it out in pencil then went in with a watercolor pen.  After that I went in with the pencil again to give it a bit more volume.
Let me know what you think!
I love purple!

Oh an I just posted some new animation to my animation BLOG!!

A little late but - Costume Carnival!!

So every Halloween The academy of art has a costume Carnival.  They have about 10 models there on rotation with about 4 or 5 stages all set with scary props and cool lighting for people to paint and draw.   I was only able to go for about an hour but here a a few drawings i did. Sorry it took so long for me to post them.

Extras!

So I was doing a homework assignment and had a piece of hot press paper left over. What does one artist do with extra paper scraps..... throw it away you say.... I think NOT!

So while doing Laundry at Joey's (Laudramat/ internetcafe/icecream shop/ and sausage seller)
I drew these little guys.

Then I added a touch of watercolor and inked them. Shablazm!!

Heads - -

Man I have been super busy with a couple of projects lately and cant wait to tell you about them.  But that will have to wait.  Check this out though!

Just heads drawn while on the bus.  Super fast but fun! I was mainly playing with shapes.  It took me about an hour to do these on the bumpy ride to the Monterey Bay aquarium.

Uh... these arent the real colors... blogger has been uploading photos with strange errors lately!

NCN Caricature Convention

I  returned from North Carolina about a day ago and I just want to share with you the work that I did while I was There.   It was all completed within 4 days. I didnt get much sleep but man was it worth it!  Drawing amongst a group of artist who are dedicated to their craft is unlike anything i have ever experienced.  For those of you who have not heard of the NCN (national Caricaturist Network ) , Soon to be the ISCN  (International Society of Caricature Artists), I urge you to check out the web site and think about going to the Convention next year.  Its a learning experience you  dont want to miss.  Oh, you dont draw caricatures?  Well rubbish.  Caricature fits into any artists range of tools, especially animators, character designers and illustrators.   So check it out and let me know what you think of my work.  Thanks !

I remember this fighter from when I was a kid.  My dad actually fought this guy on ESPN.  He didnt win, but should have in the 4th round.  None the less it was a great fight.  Eh, that was almost 10 years ago. All I know is, I love boxers, and I would like to announce that I will be adding a boxer drawing every week.  It might be digital, quick sketch or just a something i spent a few minutes on in my sketch pad.  Im in a time where I have been thinking about my Fathers ups and downs.  And i have been just thinking and sketching, thinking and sketching...Who is this man named Fabian (my Father)? So for me its a blast from the past.  I hope you keep up and enjoy!

Real Names have been removed to protect the innocent.

Quick study AND CLothed Figure!

Heres some drawings from over the last couple of weeks.  These range from 2 minutes to a 15 minute pose.  I try and capture some sort of essence in the pose even though i am drawing from the model.  My teacher has gotten upset at me and says im drawing " too cartoony.  But i dont really see it as cartoony, I see it as drawing with force and pushing the pose to where I see it in my head.  I could be wrong about it. I dont want to spend 20 - 30 minutes on a drawing, its not worth my time or in my interest to draw and render something so that its exactly what i see in front of me.  I could just as well taken a picture in less time.  This is not drawing for the sake of Fine art....Its Drawing For animation!  What is Fine art?  Animation is ART at its FINEST!
