Quick study AND CLothed Figure!

Heres some drawings from over the last couple of weeks.  These range from 2 minutes to a 15 minute pose.  I try and capture some sort of essence in the pose even though i am drawing from the model.  My teacher has gotten upset at me and says im drawing " too cartoony.  But i dont really see it as cartoony, I see it as drawing with force and pushing the pose to where I see it in my head.  I could be wrong about it. I dont want to spend 20 - 30 minutes on a drawing, its not worth my time or in my interest to draw and render something so that its exactly what i see in front of me.  I could just as well taken a picture in less time.  This is not drawing for the sake of Fine art....Its Drawing For animation!  What is Fine art?  Animation is ART at its FINEST!

you know.. fine art people might actually read this - hah! tell your teacher that he should check out Mike Mattesi (sp?) which i think you are referencing in your "force" comment. I like his work and see his influence on your stuff. Also, you might check out Carl Gnass who's lightly pushed gestures are pretty amazing. funny that you think a 20 minute pose is long.. there is beauty also in fully realizing a pose vs capturing the energy of the gesture.. just one ( other) opinion! cheers. -kw

Hey Kevin -

Thanks for your comment! First i would like to say that your work is Great. I really admire the work of someone who can do drawings like that (full renderings of anatomy). Funny that you mention Mike Mattesi because after she told me to draw less cartoony I ran home to grab the book, (always on my shelf) and showed it to her. She now understands. I do not deny the beauty in drawing that way and have a great amount of respect for the people who do draw like that. I guess its just in my animation blood to stray away from the renderings and get the most "action" out of my poses. Put me in a fine art class and ill be way behind. Well, thanks for stopping by and i hope youll do so again.
